I assume we're talking about Clearwater, Fl.?  If so, here's some:

1. An inexpensive seafood restaurant that is popular with the locals is
"Shells".  It is a local chain, nothing fancy, food at a moderate price.
You can get basics such as steamed shrimp on up to simple Italian dishes
with seafood.  They are located all over the bay, so consult the Yellow
Pages for locations convenient to you.

2. "Hooters".  This is a 'theme' restaurant, where the theme is pretty
women in short shorts, well endowed.  You can get boiled shrimp, oyster
on the half shell as well as roasted/steamed oysters (North Carolina style),
plus other items.  This is very casual and popular with the locals.

3. "Fast Eddie's...Home of warm beer and lousy food" on Annia Maria Island.
While it will be a drive from Clearwater on I-275, (go over the Sunshine
Skyway bridge to Bradenton, then west <sorry, don't remember road
number...consult a map> to Anna Marie Island.  North on Island till road
turns East, then straight till you run into Bay.  It has a restaurant on land
as well as a small one on their pier.  Food is good, at reasonable prices
($10 - 15).  There is one closer to Clearwater, but Anna Maria Island makes
the difference, as does the drive over Sunshine Skyway bridge.  You can see
the bridge in the distance from Fast Eddies.  Dinning is less casual then
two above on land, but pier is very casual.  You can fish/observe on the
pier.

    Especially the imported Baby Back ribs.

    Try their Sunday Brunch also.

If you're interested in someplace a little more than casual, I would try
Levrock's - good seafood and I hear that they have excellent early-bird
specials.  I believe they have a fairly new restaurant right over on
Clearwater Beach ... next to the bridge heading south along the beach.

There's a great italian place in downtown Clearwater ... you might have to
look hard for it 'cause it's just a door along a side street with a brass
nameplate : Octavio's.  Fancy decor and great food (esp. the fettucine w/
white clam sauce).

If you want to pull out all the stops, try the Wine Cellar or the Lobster
Pot.  They are both along the beaches further south of Clearwater and both
have excellent reputations.  My folx recently went to the LP and were
*very* impressed.  Said the food was fantastic and the service couldn't be
equalled.

One of my favorite restaurants is George Pappas's on Clearwater-Largo Road.
It's a greek restaurant which I've always assumed was in some way related
to the famous Pappas's in Tarpon Springs.  The food is excellent ... they
have a number of traditional greek dishes as well as other types of entrees.
Excellent greek salad.  Very nice decor and the prices are so reasonable!

I missed the original post, but if you are on Clearwater Beach, try the
Clam Chowder at "Saltwaters".  They make a great Grouper sandwich as well.
Take the second right after you get across the causeway to get there.

Also a must for pig-out sea food is "Crabby Bill's".  This is a blue jeans
and beer kind of place.  Be prepared for an hour or so wait (they dropped
by with free beer and soda last time I was there).  It is 20 minutes south
of Clearwater Beach in Indian Rocks Beach (east side of the road, you can't
miss it).

These are casual places.  If you want fancy, "The Beachcomer" on Clearwater
Beach is good.  If you get to Tampa and want to spend some bucks, "Burns
Steak House" is always on the top 10 list nationally...

The Stuffed French Toast is not on the buffet.  It is available 7 days a
week, a la carte, at the normal restaurant at the Polynesian.  I ate at the
Polynesian's daily buffet last December and was not impressed with the
food.

Let me preface this by saying that I have no idea what their current
situation is after the hurricane last week, but the absolute best meal I had
in Miami was Mark's Place in North Miami Beach.  It has the highest rating
for food that I have ever seen in Zagat, a 28.  A really great place, very
stylish patrons, too (well, except for me that time).  The brother/sister
team who runs Le Bernardin in NYC also opened a place in Coral Gables (I
think), and it is supposed to be excellent.

The good news: Theres a GREAT family style restuarant downtown in a
residential area.  It's in an old, two story house with a large porch
(looks like something out of an old movie).  The food is in the style
of the Amish family farm restaurants around Lancaster Penn.

The bad news is: I can't remember the name.  But, it is very well known
locally, so you should be able to find out the name and directions
by just asking around.

Check out The Waterway in Palm Beach if anyone out there has the chance. Nice
place on the intracostal waterway. Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. I
was there New Years eve of all nights when this positive dining experience
happened. I had medallions of veal and shrimp in a garlic butter sauce which
was excellent. Other things on the menu were lobster stuffer with crabmeat,
prime rib (looked great) and other  menu items similar to that. Try it.

There is one place in Cocoa Beach that is almost legend. It is a place where
astronauts have always eaten, as well as all of the journalists that have
covered the space center. At the height of the space program, if you did not
make reservations months in advance, you could not get them within a day or
so of a launch. Today I think reservations are much easier to get.. The
place is called Bernards Surf. The food is quite good, and the prices are
not out of line..

Try the Mango Tree.  Its has fine food and a classy but not overdone
atmosphere.  It is located on A1A, north of the Minuteman Causeway, on the
northbound side of the road (in the area of the restaurant, south and
north A1A are separated by a block).

One of the best restaurants in the county is the Black Tulip in Cocoa Village,
acroos the causeway (route 520) west of Cocoa Beach.  It's been a long time,
but I once had maybe the best lobster I have ever had there.
Great innovative desserts to.

There are some fun fish places north at Cape Canaveral too.

 Also try the Black Tulip in Cocoa Village. There is a very good place
Near the space center called Mr Lee's. Good Chinese food.

Bernards surf was good. We were lucky we didn't have a problem getting
in without a reservation but it was a tuesday evening in January so that
may have had something to do with it.

I have a couple of restaurants in that area (may be about 45 min
from Palm Beach) that I was impressed with. I haven't been there
for a couple of years but I assume they are still there.
1- Yesterdays: I believe it is in Ft. Lauderdale. The view is
  great. At the time I took my wife and it cost us about $60 USD
for a four course meal. We only had soft drinks. But I thought
that it was worth going again. The food, service and scenary
were just excellent.
Sorry I don't have the phone no.

2- Sea Watch: again this is in Ft. Lauderdale by the Ocean. There
Phone no. is 305-7812200, it is on A1A south of Atlantic Blvd.
again last time I went there was a couple of years ago. There Red
Snapper is great and price is moderate, I think I paid about $40 USD
for a three course meal.

My sister Kathy works as a waitress at Snapper's Rest. in lower Key Largo.
It is one of the best places in the upper keys.
Great seafood, good prices, and a real nice waterfront location.
It is on the ocean side at around Mile Marker 94.
Ask for Kathy Trentine, she would get a kick out of it that her brother told
someone about her on some computer network!

There's a GREAT Caribbean rest. in my town, Pompano Beach, called The Calypso.
It is in a deserted mall near I-95 and is just a little place, but what a find!
Worth a special trip! We're in north Broward, not far from Palm Beach really.
Super seafood and steaks and everything else, low low prices.
I go there so often, I know the owners pretty well, they are two nice couples,
Jackie & Mike (from England and Trinidad)
and Chuck & Laura (from New Jersey). Tell them also that I sent you.
This place is going to be famous one day.

An upcomeing post mentions Yesterdays in FtL which indeed is nice location on
the ICW and also the Sea Watch on A1A and the ocean, it is a great location,
food pretty good. Yesterdays will be a little expensive for you i think. Sea
Watch is nice, but youy money better spent at Calypso. You can go to the beach
anytime, no need to pay a restarant for the privilige.

In Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, there is also the Sea Shanty, they have
fabulous sea food and key lime pie.
If you want deli food, try Rascal House on A1A in N. Miami Beach.  Its
is excellent, inexpensive, and the portions are huge.  Just expect to
wait in line.

I found one of the most interesting places for food in Fla. to be
Tarpon Springs, about a half hour north of Clearwater, as I recall.
It's an entire Greek city, with an economy based on sponge fishing,
and it has dozens of Greek restaurants and coffee houses.  It
certainly is a change of pace from what you usually see in
Florida.

I'm from Naples, Fl.(about 20 min. South of Ft. Myers).  I highly
recommend the Dock at Crayton Cove in Naples. It has lots of local color,
good seafood (chowder and pina coladas are great!) and a relaxing atmosphere.
